The E36 was introduced in late 1990 (1991 model) for Europe and as a 1992 model for US and Canada.

Sure, the M50 was released in 1989, but it probably first found its way into an E34.

11/89 E36? It's possible. If you select a US E36 325i, the first production date listed is 10/90, I can believe that Europe/ROW got the car a year before we did.

my e36 is a 1991-- actually very early 91(no it isnt special/yes it is stilll ghey)-- the front struts as well as the trans. reverselight switch is different than all the other e36 cars.

here in Germany a car is not done by the "model year"-- it is done by the date of first reg.-- you cant have a 2009 in 2008 in europe...... funny huh????

but a 1989 I have never seen or heard of.

a car built in 11/12 89 is never an 89... takes more than 2 months of lead time to get one built, tested and sold in a dealer.

We just need to keep in mind that build date and model year are two different things.

The funny stuff is when someone comes into a shop with a 1998 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight, trying to get fixed.

it has power steering, but that is it- other than the small board computer no options on it.-- along its life someone put aftermarket power windows on the front, and the cool rear wing

Thats how mine is. We purchased a 91 e30 in 90. Went to the factory in August of 90 to pick it up and the date stamps say its a 91.... but vin says its 90... I dont know what to think.

Yeah, my '91 318is is really a 90' 318is from the vin, but it's a '91. Which one do you believe?

Does it matter? I would think the build date is the only thing that would really make a difference, the 90 and 91 model year didn't have any major differences in parts, aside from options.

I wish I had a 91, I'm getting sick of:
"What kind of car"
"It's a 1990 325i"
"a 93?"
