My point is, none of the so called reputable vendors make them, they buy them from some one. Its not BMW. I can produce a high quality part and save you money over what is out there today. We have a in house metallurgist and heat treating on site as well as all the tooling needed to make these. I understand the liability of making and selling a part like this. We make suspension parts now for the RV industry and EV market. I will not make/sell anything I would not put on my own car.Custom Made Skid Plates For Sale.

These would be used by people who are going to really push their cars to the limit. Are you prepared for a lawsuit if the part fails and a serious crash ensues? I'm not even talking about a suit that has merit. In this litigious society, it could cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars or more just to defend yourself against a guy who installed or used the part incorrectly.
Maybe you should start over with this thread. If you would have introduced yourself as,
"Hi. I work for a company that makes heavy-duty suspension parts for the RV industry and have been thinking of producing Al control arms for the E30. Would there be interest in such a product?"
then you would have had very different responses.Comment

You have a point. I will probably make these anyway. Sell them to the Vendors and enjoy them myself. We sell to many OEM's and aftermarket distributors right now. These would be used by people who are going to really push their cars to the limit. Im not saying its a product that can be made and work just as well, if not better, than the OE m3 unit. Its just not cost effective. And to add to that, it will be hard to gain the trust of the consumer such an important part.
Everyone is quite please with your skid plates, myself incuded. But this isa bit more than an add on, its vital.

That Turner description is for THE Original BMW part, made by BMW.
And no offense but just because you can throw a mesh on something doesnt mean you have the skills to actually analyze the FEM results. Unless you have a very experienced structural analysis engineer with a PE and with a background in both static and durability analysis on your payroll, your part has no more 'engineering' in it than BillyJoeBob welding shit together in his garage.Last edited by madjurgen; 12-17-2008, 02:40 PM.
As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.Comment

im not sure what the deal here is. if ejnight is making parts for RVs at his shop, which last time i checked out weigh a e30. and he has a almost zero failure rate (im assuming). im not sure where the issue would be. if parts that are made currently at his shop are manufactured to spec and he has some sort of quality control in place, i dont see the error of remaking a existing part.
keep me posted ejnight, id like to see some of these made and how they work on your car. i might be interested in a set for the m3.Comment

Why not make a modified E36 knuckle that will move the wheel forward?
This would allow E30 people to have 5 lug swap by using E36 struts, control arm and your special knuckle without the caster issue?
Just some random thoughts.Comment

Yeah.... that's what I was thinking.Personally i would be reluctant not knowing what grade alloy was used/process to which its made. Do you plan to test their breaking strength? have anyway to detect manufacturing flaws in the part?
i would not buy, no matter how many were sold. But thats just my opinion.
AL arms from the factory are supposed to be replaced at a given interval... last thing that I would do is go with someones knock-off AL arms...PNW Crew
