That was exactly the problem, I don't know why I didn't check that first. How often the simple solution will elude us.
I lifted the little covers over the splines, and both nuts were spun almost completely off of the splines. Tightened them back down, and disco!Leave a comment:

if it is anything like the E30, you can just tighten the nut down more to press it onto the splines. That's what I did with mine, and they are working great now.Leave a comment:

Stripped. If you really don't care. Tack weld the arm to the spindle.Leave a comment:

Let me guess, turned the windshield wipers on to clear a bunch of snow off? Bad, bad idea. The weight from the snow stops the arms from moving and the motor keeps turning resulting in stripped splines.
Pull one off and check to see if the splines are stripped on the arm or on the shaft. Hopefully they are just stripped on the arm.Leave a comment:

^^ What he said, or you can cotter it and screw the output shafts up forever, or junkyard some new arms.Leave a comment:

this happened to a landrover my dad had, the spindle inside the arm stripped out to we drilled a hole horizontally through the wiper arm and spindle and then put a bolt through it, it worked very well and it was basically invisible.Last edited by kamotors; 12-19-2008, 04:11 PM.Leave a comment:

Upon closer inspection of the arms, I can see the little spindles that turn the arm turning back and forth inside where they mount to the arm. It seems like they aren't gripping the inside of the arm base to turn it.Leave a comment:
