    That was exactly the problem, I don't know why I didn't check that first. How often the simple solution will elude us.

    I lifted the little covers over the splines, and both nuts were spun almost completely off of the splines. Tightened them back down, and disco!

    if it is anything like the E30, you can just tighten the nut down more to press it onto the splines. That's what I did with mine, and they are working great now.

    Stripped. If you really don't care. Tack weld the arm to the spindle.

    luckily, most of the time it is just the arm that strips. so much easer/cheaper to replace just the arm!

    Let me guess, turned the windshield wipers on to clear a bunch of snow off? Bad, bad idea. The weight from the snow stops the arms from moving and the motor keeps turning resulting in stripped splines.

    Pull one off and check to see if the splines are stripped on the arm or on the shaft. Hopefully they are just stripped on the arm.
