Looking at some of the BMW sales brochures for the E30 325i/is equipped with the Manual Trans, they list the 0-50 time as 5.9 seconds and the 0-60 time as 8.5 seconds.
Why does the factory sales brochure have such a huge gap in the time it takes to go from 50MPH to 60MPH?
2.6 seconds?
0-50 in 5.9 seconds is respectable, but 0-60 in 8.5 seconds isn't.
I can't imagine it taking 2.6 seconds to shift from 2nd to 3rd and accelerate from 50-60MPH
For the Automatic trans, it lists the 0-50MPH time as 7.8 seconds, and 0-60MPH as 10.3 seconds. Ouch! The term "Autotragic" is an accurate description.
A Google search shows that Car & Driver magazine ran 7.4 seconds from 0-60 in a 1988 325is equipped with the 5 spd. trans. along with a 15.6 run for the 1/4 mile, while the BMW sales brochure states 16.4 for the 5 spd. 325i/is in the 1/4 mile. (And 17.7 in the 1/4 for the automatic trans equipped 325i/is)
The numbers for the 5 spd. Cabrio are about .1 seconds slower for both the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, which makes sense as they have about 175 more lbs. weight disadvantage.
But why would BMW publish the more pedestrian 0-60MPH and 1/4 mile numbers in their sales brochure?
And which numbers are closer to reality?
Has anyone run a stock 325i/is/ic in the 1/4 mile and if so, what were your times?
Same goes for 0-60 times as well.
I would think mid 7's for 0-60 are more realistic, but I wonder why BMW would publish the mid 8's in their sales brochures.
I realize these cars are not fast, especially in contrast to most cars built nowadays. But they must have had an old lady driving when they recorded these times.
