    I'm going to the snow

I would like to drive the e30 to big bear this weekend to go snowboarding. Is there anything I should do to prepare? Can someone who lives in the snow chime in and tell me what you have done to prepare your e30 for the snow? I just put on my racks. I will be putting on smaller wheels with bigger tires and I'll have my chains. but is there anything else I should do to prepare?

    Advise is greatly appreciated.

I am interested too. We have received nearly 2 feet of snow in the past 3 days, and driving my car today was a challenge to say the least. I am going to throw some sandbags in the trunk tomorrow, hopefully that might help.

put some good snow tires on it and put a 100-150lbs of weight in the trunk, like sand and some salt in case you do get stuck you can use some of it for traction and ice melt. Put the weight all the way to the front of the trunk so its over the rear axle as much as it can be. You will be able to go almost anywhere with a e30 in that configuration

What he said. Snow + E30 = amazing sliding action (fake drifting).

You want narrower tires, and a full gas tank. If you have decent tires, a full tank is all the traction weight you should need. Even old studded tires work pretty well.
Not that I care, of course.

Get snow tires. That is the single bissgest improvement you can make. If you have coilovers, raise your ride height. Otherwise, I always keep a coat, gloves, etc. in the trunk just in case. A small shovel wouldn't hurt either.

you dont want bigger tires. you want 195's in a good snow tire. these cars are awesome in the snow set up properly

I agree with 195 snow tires, however that does not seem reasonable if you do not live in an area that there is regular snow. I also agree with a bag of sand or cat little in the trunk (both for extra weight and to use for traction under a wheel if you should get stuck).
The most important change for winter/snow driving is not to the car, it is to your mind. Every thing should be done more slowly in the snow. Take your time, DO NOT follow other cars closely. Caution is the better part of valor.
                    e30 + snow + common sense = fun.

I have been driving for over a week in lots of snow in my eta with 195 blizzaks and a LSD. My biggest hurdle is ground clearance since I am rolling on H&R race springs.

i 5otaled my m3 in the snow last year. Someone slid and hit me. It couldn't have been prevented...

I'm getting better tires on a smaller wheel with some chains. And I'll bring a little shovel with a full tank of gas...
