Need some help

Alright, I have already searched for what I needed but could not find it. Here is the situation. My old brittle orginal key had broke, my spare key had gone missing thanks to a family member, luckly I was still able to get a locksmith to make a spare out of the broken key, and it works perfect, however, I went to start up my car, of course locked up the steering wheel while it was off, so now the ignition wont turn at all, steering wheel is locked, of course like any most e30 drivers, I was able to to unlock the steering wheel in the past, now I am pretty much screwed. Now is my ignition cylinder fucked or what? any little tips to unlock the wheel?

Have you tried lubricating the tumbler? Also, wiggle the steering wheel while trying to unlock. The wheel might have the lock in a bind.

sounds like the copy that you made is too "new" this happened to me too

my copy was so perfect that it didnt fit inany of my worn out locks

i hit it with a wirewheel and now it works fine.

just a note, you can still get factory cut keys from BMW for about 15 bucks and 3 days time. This key willbe an exact duplicate of the original key coded exactly yo your car. they can look up the key "code" and order a "coded" key with you key code from your VIN.

I thought my new key was "too new" as well, but all was working fine prior to locking the steering wheel.
As for the stealer option, its 150 dollars. so my final resort will be a locksmith. When I went to get the new keys made, the locksmith told me that the key code could be found in the owners manual, and he could cut it if I find it, however I think my problem is with ignition, just need to unlock that wheel

if youy get it out and want a new cyl and matching key give me a yell, ive got one

my mistake, they quoted me for the master and valet key for 150 still pretty steep, so around 66 dollars with my club membership just for the master. I realized that I got one more bottle of die icer/lube, the other one was pretty much empty, so I ll go give it a shot, if not ill get send you a pm
