If you were in indy I'd probly give you somewhere around $1400 for it. I'm actually currently looking at a 528e ironically. This one is technically a 527i, though...

Why is the backseat so worn? Seems odd to me...looks like it will be a nice car once the rust is cleaned up.

I like the euro versions of these but on this one I'd be very wary of rust. If the rocker's rotted through better put this on a lift, the exhaust might be hanging on by a thread, and pretty much any repair you do on the underside might be a royal pain in the ass. Feel the carpet for dampness, I have an E21 and the windshield seal leaked and caused some rust. I got my car from Cali though so the rust was what we'd call minor here in PA. If I hadn't fixed it though, a couple years here and the floorpan would have rotted out. So check your floorpans. Since demand for this car is going to be low, offer the guy $600 and see what he does. If you are REALLY wanting one of these I have a friend in Long Beach just saw one for sale for $895. Said the body was very straight and paint nice. This is California though so there would be shipping cost involved. Think of it this way: That guy wants $1500 for his. You probaby could get the one in Cali for $1650 including shipping. That extra couple hundred is worth every penny, trust me.

true, true, but i can get the price down alot from $1500 i am sure, and i was wondering if it was worth buying this to turn it around and sell it. Its ironic that i am asking this of the same community that i will try to sell it to later.

A flip on one of these I wouldn't attempt in a million years.
Unless you get it for $200. People just aren't interested in these, you may find you have to put more money in it, and have to sit on it a long time to get your money back. Go on Ebay see what these are bringing, maybe that will be an indicator of value.
If you are looking to flip cars, go for rebuildables or 60s USA cars. I bought a project 68 GTO and didn't even put gas in it and made $3,500 a month after I bought it. I did the same thing with a 68 Camaro. For awhile I was buying wrecked 93-2002 Z28 camaros that was profitable. Then gas went up, the cars were getting miles on them and most had the shit beat out of them before they were wrecked.

Hmm.... what you have to say is quite interesting... there are only two on ebay, one has a buy it now of $1995. the other has one bid at $900. From what other people are saying, i can fetch $1200-1500 for this car, but i agree with you that this car is not a sought-after car, so i am wary. I think i can get this car for $800, and i would not be putting any money into it, only deep cleaning it and turning it around.

You are a much braver man than I.
I took all my money out of the stock market because of the risk.
There is no way i'd put myself through all that to make only $500. Maybe make $500. This is also the absolute worst time to sell cars even in a good economy. People don't really start buying "toys" till March or April.
This car is a "winter rat" that I would buy to beat the living shit out of then when it stopped running, junk it. Even scrap is down now, so I'd be surprised if you could get $200 for it at the scrapyard.
May God go with you on this deal, my friend.

I'd offer $1000, then go up to $1300.

Seems like a nice solid car & the issues you've told us about it aren't too incredibly serious. Its hard to find a nice e28 these days, do all the maintenance, fix the rust, chip it, clean it up & it'll make for a nice driver.

i guess we are quite different. I would definitely put myself through "all that" even to make $250. That is a set of H&R springs for my E30 right there. The only question for me is, is there a high chance that i would make the $250 on this car, or would i end up being stuck with an un-sellable E28?
