Because we're all cheap bastards who hate spending big quantities of money on our car at once. The cost outweighs the benefit for making them. Sad reality...

so you are telling me that there are no competant exhaust shops in your area that can build you a cat back with mufflers that you supply or that they build/order for you?

with in a 50 mile radius i have:
Bellinger
B & B
GHL
McCabe Racing
Tommy Unser

they all make high end exhausts if that is what you are looking for.

do a little investigating in the phone book and see who is around you

I just decided this morning that I'm updating my exhaust system. At first I didn't like Magnaflow on an E30 but it's really grown on me. Finally found the correct 2.25 dual in dual out muffler and tips and ordered it today, hopefully gettin' them tomorrow.

I've listened to a lot of mufflers/exhaust systems on here and youtube and I'm actually glad there isn't one that sounds the best. Otherwise, everyone would rock it. Trying to create your own sound is half the fun.

if you are going to get the magnaflow muffler 2 1/4 dual in/out, let me warn you that it is loud. i am using one for my cat replacement/delete. while it did make it quieter, it wasn't a HUGE difference.
i am glad that i have 2 mufflers on the car.

I've already thought about that. For one, I'm still running a cat. You kinda have to in Cali. If it's still too loud, I'll throw a resonator in between the cat and muffler. We may see tomorrow!

my catless system with the rusted out muffler is too raspy, would love the sound my 328i used to have... too bad the e30 stromung was ridiculous price wise when it was available. I think my e36 one was only $635
