    need body work help!!!

so i rolled my fenders this weekend thanks to a member here.
while doing it i discovered the real reason behind the cracking "bondo" on my P/S rear QTR. i knew that it had been repaired (even though it had a clear carfax) from looking at the inner trunk. I DID NOT know that you could get a factory "short" rear section. i figured that someone had done a hack repair and i was left to fix it correctly.

i looked on realoem and found this

so i am thinking that they put itn a # 20.

have any of the body guys on here done a repair with one of these insted of the whole QTR panel? i am kind of scared to think what i am going to find when i dig into it.

    thanks for any insite

Cut out a section slightly smaller then the #20 panel, then shape it so it fits flush and weld it together.

Well, I'm nearly done parting a car out because it needed a #16!

Not sure if it's still on ebay, but for a while, there was a guy selling #16 for $100.

that i know, i do bodywork for a living .

i have never done much on an E-30, and until i looked on realoem, i assumed that you could only get a qtr panel, not just a section.

i am putting on IX flares, so the now malformed lip will be hidden i just need to fix the qtr panel where the filler is cracking and repaint it.

I did a "fast" repair job on a friends car and just replaced theat section on both sides-- was very profesional- but from the outside it looks great.-- if it was welded correctly- you really shouldnt have much of a problem-- but chances are it was prob. a quicky job if the bondo is cracking.

it is not pretty on the inside, he over lapped the panels with out a step, only tacked every 4"-5" inches, not stitch welded, crappy penetration too. total amature repair done at a shop. if i did work like that i would be ashamed of it.

sad, because if you take the time and have the skills to do the repair correctly, it could have been OK. all the gaps are nice and even too.

I can sell you a #16 for cheap if you want. It'll need to be repainted but considering you're already going to be doing that....
