    Door Chime Removal Question

Hello all, I just unplugged my door chime because it was on the fritz. It would come on if I pressed on the dead pedal, and then it also starting beeping morse code when I'd take left turns.

So when I disconnected it, I found that there were two plugs for the door chime.

From what I've gathered, the door chime creates both the door open noise, and the OBC dong when the temp gets low (38?), for the memo function, and speed, etc.

Is one of these plugs in charge of the door chime operations, and the other in charge of the OBC tones? If so, could I plug in the one for the OBC and have the OBC tones function properly? I would have tested it, but the door chime function was being stupid and didn't want to work when I wanted it to.

I think it's a short under my carpet somewhere. It seems to tweak out when I when I touch my dead pedal. I just have it disconnected now, but I'd like to retain my OBC functionality if at all possible.

Does this thing also gong when the lights are left on and the key isn't in the ignition? My instrument cluster doesn't light up so I forget about the headlights sometimes. I think my door gong works and I am in San Diego so I don't know about the black ice warning.

No, it does not gong when you leave the lights on. If it did, I might be tempted to leave it in the car...

For the time being, I used electrical tape to cover half of it to make it quieter.

I pulled mine out when I was working on my car with the door open. I was getting annoyed. It was never very useful to me. I don't remember the two wire plugs though.

Why not just find the short and fix it? If one wire is shorting, more then likely others are or will be soon.
