I just had a random thought while looking through craigslist. Would it be possible to swap the v12 engine from a 90 750il into an e30? Is there even enough space to possibly house the monster engine? I found a good running and clean 750il for dirt cheap with a 4spd auto and think it would be crazy to swap the engine into my 325iS shell (when I'm done parting the iS). I'm thinking of trying to pull a 5spd manual from a later model. I'm not concerned about power, more in the novelty of having a v12 e30, so I'm well aware there are easier ways to get the 296/332 power output.

750il V12 Swap?

Search around, it's been done. It's not an easy swap, but I think it fits in the engine bay with some modification to the firewall. If you are serious about doing the swap, I know a guy who is extremely well-versed on BMW V12's, I could give you his contact information if you'd like. He works on the motors, but I distinctly remember him telling me that there is nothing cheap on any V12 motor.
As far as the transmission goes, I am not sure what 5/6-speed would bolt right up to that M70. The only manual transmission that came attached to the M70 was the Getrag S6S 560G, from what little I know about that transmission, I can only imagine what prices are for a used/rebuilt one.
Edit: I have heard some people saying that the Getrag S6S 420G (the one found in M60/M62-powered cars) will swap to an M70. Not confirmed, but it's sure as hell cheaper than the 560G.Last edited by TDE30; 02-07-2009, 12:57 PM.- Trey

That looks great! that's exactly what I'm interested in with the engine bay! I'd definitely like to try and put it in an m3 body. I found a relatively good condition 750 for 1200. probably can get it for 900. Interior is in really good condition. I'm thinking part the car and throw the engine and electronics into a e30 frame.

Heh, parting out any E32 probably won't be easy. A few parts might be compatable with E34's, but for the most part there will likely be few parts sold (unless bimmer_e30 still has his POS E32.)
If you have the resources to make it happen, there is a good bit of knowledge on here.- Trey
