1981 BMW M535i. European specification BMW imported from Switzerland in 1998. I'm original importer to the USA and car was converted to meet EPA/DOT at a Registered importer on the east coast. Original mileage is about 129K and I have nearly complete records since sold new in Italy. Car is always stored inside and is in beautiful condition. Many new parts and upgrades have been done in the past 3 years, including engine upgrades sporting a full Alpina B9 "Big valved" head with Schrick 290 cam along with a Alpina B7 turbo intake manifold. Newly upholstered recaro cloth seats with leather bolsters with original factory Alpina cloth. Car now sports full Alpina suspension (shocks, springs and rear anti-roll bar). Car is a true BMW Motorsport model, the first road going M car after the M1 and is one of only about 1410 produced in 1979-1981. None where sold in America and this is one of only a dozen or so original cars that exist in the USA. Interior is very nice, no dash cracks or headliner tears, carpet is original and excellent, seats as mentioned are brand new Also has a Denon 10 CD changer under drivers seat and cruise control installed. I have too many cars and one needs to find a new good home. Email for more details. Car was last seen in Seattle area during the Griot's garage open house and M car meet last spring. It was displayed inside near all the other super nice M cars on display. Please email for more details or pictures I might be interested in possible trades, BMW, Porsche, Old British roadsters, Muscle cars etc. Thanks for looking!

    You sure that's a 5? I think E12 is technically a 7 series...

Still, I wouldn't kick it out of bed.

6500? That is surely a scam for that M5, by the way. The engine alone is worth around 5K.

Thats Frank Haas' car. It was at last years M Car Day. He has quite the collection of rare cars, including a few real Alpinas. That car is gorgeous in person. Its been for sale quite a few times in the past.
A pic I took of it.

He lives in Issaquah. Its an old man and he thinks its just an old car that no one really wants.

Nope. E12 was the first 5'er.

Ah, then I was wrong. I just remember seeing a bunch of old BMWs that looked like that one badged as "L7" at the yards...

Not with 250K on the clock it's not. A rebuild to stock specs would cost well over $15K (closer to $20K, actually) and I'm sure it's due for a rebuild soon with that kind of mileage.

Besides, that car looks like it's in pretty rough shape. I doubt anyone will buy it, even at that price.

Yeah, the old 5's and 7's look pretty similar. Besides, those cars sold in very small numbers in the US. And the few they did sell have all disappeared because they basically had no rustproofing. Unlike the 3.0csi, they had no collector's value until very recently. So people beat them into the ground.

I'm more familiar with them since they sold tons in Europe. And the mild climate out in Istanbul means they didn't rust. You still see plenty of E12's and E21's on the road back home in Turkey. Rare to see any in the US these days.

Exactly. S38s cost $$ to properly maintain.
