Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

In his book The Driver, Alexander Roy lays out how he drove from New York to Los Angeles in 31 hours and 4 minutes, stopping only six times. He explains how he prepared for what he says is a record-breaking road trip.

he broke the record for cross-country travel
I drove my mustang from Dallas to LA in 18 hours, obeying the speed limits, getting lost, pulling over for food and restrooms... ...its a 14 hour drive from Dallas to the florida atlantic coast obeying the speed limits, pulling over for food and restrooms... 18+14=32hours

...All I see is a guy who managed to speed the whole way without getting pulled over, pissing in a jar.

Oh and about the gumball, they made a Cannonball 3 movie called Speed Zone. One the the main cars racing is a 1988 e32

you have to remember the midwestern and the northeastern road systems are way more curvy and indirect, and also more traveled than the roads in the south. from LA to dallas the only turning you do is out of the gas station parking lot and onto the onramp.

Who the hell wants to READ about someone driving fast?

Unless that book has a video screen in the middle - not worth it.

maybe someone should make a movie about driving across the country?

                  just a thought.

                    a R3V movie...

I've been planning a cross country speed inspired road trip for a while now. I'm all gung-ho about it, but it's hard to get others on the same page. Especially if people live in different areas of the country.

LA-NY=2787.59 miles. He would have to maintain an average speed of 87 mph no stops. All interstates, so no backwoods twisty roads to slow you down. Yeah there may be traffic in the way but come on, you think this guy cares about any kind of traffic law? He'll pass them on an improved shoulder, cut people off, tailgate, you name it, he'll do it. 100+ to cover himself in case obsticles slow him down. And imagine if you had a police escort, you know you can hire those? Slow traffic keep right? no way! But if they see a cop with their lights, you bet. Oh, and imagine what the record would be if he raced a motorcycle. You wouldnt have to worry about motorists boxing you in.

Manga readers... ...Initial D, Capeta, X Driver, GTO, etc. But I know what you mean. You cant experience something like that reading. At least manga has pictures.

The reviews on Amazon makes the guy seem like a rich arrogant douche. I'll probably get the book next time Borders sends me a 30% off coupon.

                          I want a 32 hour on-board camera view.

That and a 30pack would make my weekend.

Anyone ever see that movie about the bus that had to Speed, and if its Speed dropped below a certain number, it blew up?

I think it was called The Bus that couldn't go slow
