    VW to be made in Chattanooga

    Volkswagen officials have released a sketch of their new car to be built at their Chattanooga plant that is now under construction. I'd rock it.

    “NMS” specifications
    * NMS stands for “New midsized sedan”
    * Front engine
    * Four doors
    * 30 percent of sedans produced will run on diesel
    * Hybrid version planned for future
    * Expanded cupholders, trunk and legroom
    * Six-speed dual-clutch transmission
    * Produced in Chattanooga for American market
    * Engine size, drive position, horsepower, fuel efficiency and starting price not yet released
    Source: Volkswagen officials

    Stay tuned.

    What an unusual choice in this economy. So, up until this point Volkswagen's were either assembled in Wolfsburg or Mexico, right?

          Rabbits and Mk2's were made at the Westmoreland Plant in New Stanton, PA from 78 to 88.

                Ah okay, hence the Westmoreland name on various A1's and A2's. So, this is Volkswagen's first US-based manufacturing facility in over 20 years?

                I'm surprised that any company would spend millions to build cars over here, they can't be saving that much as opposed to building the cars in Puebla or Wolfsburg. But providing thousands of jobs will certainly be welcomed.

                    Many (foreign) manufacturers are moving to the south due to tax incentives and corporate-friendly, anti-union laws. BMW manufactures cars in SC, Nissan in TN, Kia in GA, on and on.
