where do you guys run your wires so they are hidden? and where do put the the little box that runs the v1 and remote display through hardwiring it?

I've hardwired V1 in both my e30s with remote displays

on my white car, it's inside the instrument cluster to the left of the digital display



on my red car, teh remote display sits on top of the radio

very bad and old pic (was taken during the buildup) I don't have new pics showing V1 display

i would do it the same way you did it in your red car but the problem is the screen on my headunit flips up and covers that whole part :/ im hard wiring my V1 in the next hour using the check panel.

mine has saved my ass a few times.

yeah my V1 has saved me many a points on my license. In ohio most state patrol use laser (which means youre pretty much boned) but i notice they miss a lot, especially when im in my lowered nissan with fiberglass and CF front end. seems they cant lock on to it easily. but def worth the money. post up some pics of your final instal location. i just run mine up by my rearview mirror, no one seems to bother me with it

A decent detector properly mounted will warn you way before you arrive at the location of the cop.

Aren't all jammers illegal across the country?

Radar jammers are indeed illegal everywhere, you need an FCC license to broadcast on the band they use. Laser jammers are legal in a lot of states. Also, while laser jammers are illegal in California, it's an equipment violation, costs less than a speeding ticket, and doesn't get you a point on your licence.

the thing about radar detectors is, by the time the detector goes off, the cops already have you on the gun. you can slow down, but youll probably still get pulled over. that what im told anyway... anybody have experience with this?

They work as long as the radar gun is left on, which most of the time it is. Lasar detectors only work once youve been hit by the laser

Bullshit. My Whistler XTR-695 has saved my ass more than once because the cop was a mile ahead tagging people. If you get a decent detector it will give you plenty of early warning. I was driving through a local canyon and got an alert 1.5 miles from where the cop was sitting. A decent detector properly mounted will warn you way before you arrive at the location of the cop.

when you hear it go off your not going to want to look down at your knees to see where the signal is coming from. Put it at or near eye level that way you can quickly see where the signal is coming from without putting it into the ditch!

I really want to do that hazard spot. I was also thinking about putting it in the empty spot under the hvac, but that seems kinda out of the way. Let's see some more pics of your setups!

i wouldnt do ash tray cause i had mine there but cant really see it when your in 1st or 3rd gear... shifter gets in the way

I just put mine over my high beam light in the cluster. It's not visible from outside the car and its in a good location to quickly look at for the directional arrows.

While we're on the subject...

There really isn't room near the Hazard plates. You'd have to hack the panel up. Ashtray is a good spot, but away from view. I've got a three guage pillar pod waiting to go in, but only two guages to be used, so I'm going to put it in the lowest guage hole. I hardwired the V1 so there's no wires dangling. I'm not in a rush to install my remote display.



Avoidance techniques differ from area to area, as not all counties use the same systems or procedures to catch offenders. Some Hwy units use lidar, city cops might use running radar, while some still sit behind a bush using old Stalker radar guns. The last two are easy to avoid with a V1. I've considered installing laser jammers though. I find that what works is to just not speed if I'm by myself on the road. If I can keep a steady stream of other drivers infront of me, I catch the reflection of the laser and am alerted to a patrolman's presence. This gives me time to slow by the time he gets a reading for me.

Most cops are lazy and quite content just sitting hidden away and running radar while stationary. Especially in the city when the cop has a steady supply of offenders. When the cop is moving, only 40% of the time are their radar units active. More often if they are mobile, they are running silent and catch offenders simply by sight, (if you stand out of the crowd). These worry me, and therefore, YOU still have to keep your eyes peeled.

The V1 has been great to me, saved me on at least several occasions, and between the V1 and my diligence at keeping watch, I haven't been caught by surprise...knock on wood.

what if you integrate the V1 in place of the check panel area? Then just bug graves to make you oil/coolant sensor read-outs to install next to hazards/rear defrost..
(that's my plan at least)

Meh, I'm not sure that would be the best placement for it. For one thing, there is a better chance the cop would see the flashing red lights compared to the ashtray location, also it isn't as easy to glance up at the check panel area while driving, it needs to be located in the driver's immeadiate line of sight.
