I cant get any help over at Bimmerforums, so ill see if you guys know anything....

im considering buying this car if the dealer gives me a good deal, they are asking for 24,000 but the blue book is 18,000 and trade in is 15,000 so....if its 15,000 ill take it the car a 79,000 miles on it.

Anyways do these cars have big maintanence problems? tell me what you know about this particular model, ill need all the help i can get fellas.

Plus, not sure if you noticed, but this is an e30 forum. That means we focus on '84-'91 3 series cars. Not very many fans of the e46 here.

my dad had that exact car. he sold it in 2002 with 41k miles for $21,800. it deffinately isnt worth over $20k now, even if its got sport-premiuim pkg, xenons, etc. try to get around the bluebook price of 18k, or look somewhere else.

I would imagine that car was great when new, but at close to 80K don't be surprised if you have to do some maintenance on it. And that goes with ANY car.

You got a realtor yet? It's worth it likely. The commission would probably be found in savings on buying the house you really want, or drop in the price, as well as safety of being looked out for as far as inspections, etc.

And homes that have been on the market longer but are still good may be prime for a price drop. A new great home may be snathed up, but not likely.....it will probably get attention, but will sell at a later lower list price.

they have it jacked up at 24,000 since its the only bimmer on the lot

Fuck 328. Even though the E46 may me a tit bit better on the inside, IMO.....for $15k, you are talking an E36 M3 which would be a cooler daily driver.

328's are alright, but not that great.

whats so great about this e46 that you can't pass on it and look for some private sellers? getting a dealer to come down $6k is wishful thinking, but you never know. also, for every 1999-2000 e46 sedan you come across make sure all the window and sunroof regulators work. they arent an easy fix.
