    My computer is dead

To those who've sent me inquiries for stickers:

I am posting from my friend's house. My motherboard fried itself yesterday after a routine HSF replacement that involved a metal bracket that didn't do its job of NOT conducting electricity.

I am currently in the process of getting the mobo RMA'd. The company is located near me, but they do not allow drop offs/pick ups. So I should be back up to speed by Tuesday or Wednesday.

If you do not have your stickers, you won't be getting them until when my computer is back up.

    Sorry about the inconvenience.

What size heat sink were you putting on that required a metal bracket??? Where were you putting the bracket and, no offense, but are you surprised that it fried the board?

I build computers as a "side job", I'm just curious

you're terrible and shouldn't be touching the innards of a pc if you cant install a hsf. get yourself some new components and some arctic cooling gel 7 (or w/e that shens is)

It was the Cooler Master V8 heatsink fan, I followed the instructions to a T.

"picture for heatsink and mobo comparison, not my mobo"

the bracket had the insulation tape that came with it, but the sheer weight of the heatsink weighed the mobo down or something and the thickness of the bracket was just barely thinner than the gap between the motherboard and the the case made by the stand offs. So pretty sure the motherboard grounded out on the case.

It was hard to tell because the case is aluminum so it was low conductive. I didn't hear any bad noises, but once I took off the mobo, I found burn marks where the bracket would make contact with the case.

The only reason why I wasn't concerned was because i had an "all aluminum" case, I guess it still had enough conductivity to blow the mobo.

I won't be overclocking after this, but I never had a factory heatsink, and I was using a Thermaltake TR-2 before, and the cheap ass fan on that HSF seized up. So I got an HSF solution that uses a standard sized fan so I can swap it out if/when it seizes.

By the way as of May, I got an EVGA 790i Ultra SLI, and I'm running 8gb DDR3 2000mhz OCZ Plats now :D

I had absolutely no issues, POST first attempt and all!

Still working on getting some high-RPM hard drives for primary though.

I keep succumbing to these $100 1TB internals!

I am fairly confident in my ability to build a computer, I've been building computers long before I was even able to drive a car.

Just, new technology these days, ridiculously sized HSFs and these stupid brackets to prevent the motherboard from warping.

I used Arctic Silver 5 after having cleaned the surfaces with arctic clean and coffee filter
