Any way to Clean Coolant Reservoir?????

So my coolant reservoir has gotten to the point where I can't see the level of the coolant anymore. Sort of a brown color from the inside.

Question is, has anyone tried cleaning it from the inside to make it close to clear again??? Bleach, alcohol, some kind of solvent????

This is in an effort as to not buy a $70 new one.

    TIA

Just read a few articles. I'm going to give crushed ice and sea salt chunks a try. The abrasiveness is supposed to get the innermost yellow out if you shake it for a while.

If it's time has come, and the yellow is all the way through, I'll just order a new one, but for now, it's worth attempting to save $70.

Go to Home Depot. Ask to use the paint shakers.

I may have one to sell you for way less than $70...$30 shipped and its yours, but let me check and make sure that its the right one.

Is that the one? I was looking through my photobucket acct, and I am pretty sure thats the one I have in my garage.

along with the yellowing the plastic does get more brittle. mostly from getting hot and cooling along with the underhood temps. might be in your best interest to replace it as a new one will be within new tolerances obviously.

plus new ones just look better, especially along with a new washer fluid tank.

Ask DashboardMonkey if his GF did in fact clean hers with Effordent, and if so, how did it work?

I'm a little weird, in that, I cannot replace a part, with another used part.

So, i'll do my best to clean it, and if not, i'll order a new one. Thanks guys. I'll post pics too if it comes out good, but not too hopeful.

                          Sound advice.

Buy a new one every two years. Repeat.

It's pretty much the only thing you can do to keep it looking decent.

Ask a friend with a parts-washing solvent tub. Naptha does a great job of getting that shit out: just fill the reservoir with solvent and shake it a bunch.
