How would you handle this situation?

Just ran the VIN for the S52 I purchased. Turns out its not an 88k mile motor they have had for 6 weeks, but in fact, is a 127k mile motor in a car that was salvaged back in July of '08.

What would you want to do?

50,000 miles is a big difference.

Did you pay top dollar for that motor?

If so, I would present them with the info and ask for a refund of the difference in value.

You could start by calling them out and negotiating price

I paid $1700 complete with accessories and wiring harness, only thing its missing are the accessory belts and flywheel since it came out of an auto sedan M3.

It's still a good deal, i'm just pissed they were "incorrect" with their info.

1700 is an incredible deal. sounds like they knew if it went for that price.

i'd probably suck it up, and roll with it.

now if it was 3k, i'd say something different

x3. Kinda weird situation you're in. I would mention it, but in a non-confrontational tone, you know, matter-of-fact. More of you just telling them what you found when you ran it.

See what they say, maybe they'll offer something, maybe they won't. Good deal regardless.

^Exactly, I don't want to be crappy about it, they gave me a good deal on all the other parts they sold me as well. Trans/oil pan setup/rack/540i MAF.

Farbin, do you remember what sensors you were able to find? Maybe I can get them to throw the remaining sensors and a DME in a box as compensation. That'd make me an extremely happy camper.

Yeah, it'd be like biting the hand that fed you (a good deal). Don't burn that bridge. Who knows what else you may need from them.

depending on who it was, they probably didn't purposely provide false info.

After talking with Funk and finding out the cost on a REAL low mileage S52, I'm going to see if can get a DME, some OBD-I sensors out of the deal.

Not worry about the timing chain tensioners and all that jazz, just get it in the car, and beat it on for a few months to see if it starts losing compression, develops a rod knock, using oil, etc during the warranty period.
