this is me right here. Ive riden dirt bikes since I could fit on one and I took the MSF course last August. Im not expert dont get me wrong but I know my limitations. I still need to get the fund and that will probably be the biggest influence as to which bike I choose to get.
aight, well then a mid 90's 600 SHOULDN'T get you into TOO much trouble.... but i realy wouldn't go bigger than 600 or newer than say... 2000
oh... and check into www.tonystrackdays.com  it's so worth it. i'm goin to my second one in a couple weeks
defiantely man. I went out and took the course after I talked to you about it over the summer. Definately a worthwhile investment. Hopefully by the time school is over Ill have the funds
Hey man good to see you back. Its me only under a different name
I never ended up getting a bike but I got an e30! That pretty much took all the spare cash I had. My pathfinder all but died so I needed to buy something that I could use all winter as well. Im a snowboarding fiend so it was necessity. Anyways, I got my learners permit up here in NH which allows me to ride during the day as much as I want and my grandfather let me borrow his old Goldwing. Yes I know a goldwing. So I rocked that for about a month this summer. Still got me hooked. A bike is definately my next big purchase. I was looking at a Ducati Monster 600 dark the other day and it blew my mind. Not sure if itd be to much bike or not though
a monster 600 wouldn't be too much bike, but it'd CERTAINLY be a killer in maintinance... those things require some pricey check-ups that aren't advisable to do your self. :|
I know of a Ninja 500 that would make an awesome starter bike that wouldn't bore you like you think it would, even after a few months... it's goin for 2600 bucks & I know the seller
I've always been interested in riding, but it's scares the shit out of me.. I like having lots of metal around me to protect me (or kill me). I do like however, that here in NY you don't even have to take your road test if you take a state-sponsored course. They are so serious about people learning to ride properly, if you pass the course, they just give you a waiver.
I purchased my first bike early last summer. No prior riding experience, I just knew I wanted to ride. I took and passed the MSF course here in ny. Then looked into purchasing a bike. I knew i didnt want a shitbox (somthing pre-95), and i needed something flashy enough to pick up hoes on the blvd. After a few trips to multiple dealerships i found a lightly used (1000 miles), 03 GSXR 600. Bike was mint. Put down a 2k downpayment and signed my life away, $130/month + Insurance.
A week later i was powering up first gear wheelies. 3 weeks later i was bouncing up 2nd gear wheelies on the highway. 2 months later i was in the hosiptal after my first wreck (wheelie gone bad).
A year or so later i am helplesly addicted to bikes. Have some roadrash scattered around my body. I will be a rider for the rest of my life.
My advice? Pick up somthing used, maybe even somthing a little rashed up from a lowspeed drop. Maybe an early sv650? maybe a GS500? Maybe a yzf6r? I would definatly reccomend somthing fuel injected, the riding experience will be much better imo. Plan on going down.
