    She wont start!!

    Hey guys,

not sure how serious this is,

but after driving around town, then stopping at a friends house....when i got back into the car to start her up, she would start normally, then die instantly. when i would floor it to start,,,she would sputter for a little while longer then die again. tried this for about 15 mins then gave up. probaly try and tackle it tomorrow or monday?

does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? its an m42.

i thinking its a clogged fuel line or something of that sort?

    let me know!!
    thanks guys

AFM or vacuum leak. Pull the AFM plug and try to start it.

is the AFM that plug on top of the air intake that goes into the black box? if i pull that and that doesnt work,...where would i look for a vacuum leak?

      thanks!

check your fusable link in the trunk. It is connected to the B+ of the battery lead that goes to the engine. The crimped rivets work loose and when the is cold the car will start properly then when the engine is running the connection builds resistance and gets hot, expands and loses connection then the car will die. It will be under a peice of heat shrink around the passenger wheel well in the trunk

Look for a leak in that big black rubber tube that goes into the intake manifold from the AFM (Intake Boot Nr. 4 in picture.)

If that boot is cracked or worn it is most likely leaking.

My car had the same kind of problem, replaced the afm, icv, and this rubber hose (out of a couple more that were cracking) and problem solved.

thanks for all the info guys! so i just tried starting it cold turkey right now, and she just cranked and cranked.

i tried unplugging the afm and that didnt help anything.

stegosaurus - my boot does have a small crack in it, but its been there for a while so i dont thing my car would just stop starting randomly? it might idk.

chuck90m3 - i tried starting my car cold and hot,,,could this still be an issue?

i leaning towards fuel pump. is the easiest way to check this is pull the fuel hose out in the engine bay and see if it squirts fuel when i try and start the car?

            thanks!

My car did the exact same thing for a while. I pulled my plugs and they were fouled excessively with fuel...buffed as much as i could off with a wool pad, threw them back in and started right up... My injectors are varnished though.
