Stupid question: What month does the model year change with the production date? I searched and someone mentioned July. If my car's production date is 7/83 then is my car a 83 or 84? Just curious! Thanks!

Trey, that isn't usual is it? BMW usually does the changeover in 9/yr, so August and older is, say, 86, and September and newer is 87.
This could be a newer chassis thing but I thought it applied to older cars too...

My car's build date is actually 7/86. The way I realized it is a MY87 car was by reading one of those VIN decoder things on Jalopnik recently.
Specifically this part:
The tenth digit of my VIN is an "H" so the car is a MY87.If the car was built between 1980 and 2000 the code is goign to be "A-Y" sequentially excluding the three letters not found in any VIN. For example, a car built in 1994 would have the code "R" and a car from 2000 has the digit "Y" on its VIN plate. Starting in 2010, cars reset with the letter "A" for most companies.- Trey
