    frozen afm???

i have a stock 88 325is with a chip and its always ran well but today (its like 5F here) it started great and idled well and would pull itself but as soon as i accelerated past 2k the car would just shut down like you turned the key off. it wouldnt die and i could drive the car as long as i didnt accelerate much. but as soon as the r's got past 2k it cut out. but would continue to idle. so i stopped at the post office and left it running with biscus guarding it. i was in for maybe 5 minutes and i came out and it ran perfectly. im thinking frozen afm but wondering if anyone ever experienced this.

Didn't Biscus get fucked by a coyote?

And if the AFM was frozen, it probably wouldn't run in the first place, it'd be very unlikely that it was halfway frozen.

Condensation in the fuel lines? Maybe some frost in the fuel filter, if you have a cracked seal, or you left the tank almost empty for a while.

Cutting off at a certain RPM sounds like a fuel supply issue to me.

I am so sick of seeing grab ass bullshit all over the forums, that's why we got the OT section, so we can threaten each other with rape and offer beejs all willy nilly like.

I had the same issue a month after installing my MarkD chip, only it would happen at 3k. Put in my old 153 ecu with stock chip and it went back to normal. Now trying the 173 w/ chip again and its been fine for over a week :-|

                  haha, alright.

Sounds like a fuel issue for sure. But could be a giant vaccum leak?

Sounds like a moisture issue for sure. My sister's eta did this once and ran like garbage when it was cold. Turned out to be a tank of shitty ass water-filled gas from some ghetto service station. Since it was so cold, I'd say the AFM or ICV could also be sticking 'till you get up to operating temperature. Get some HEET and blow out the AFM/ICV with carb cleaner.

                      Props yo

Blunt, Your AFM could be on its way out also. If the problem just gets worse and worse, I'd bet its that.
Do you have another AFM you and swap over to see if it cures the original problem?

i think youre right. its always ran great except when i nail it and take it up to 5 or 6k it will just die like you turn the key off. this happens about 1/2 the time. then as soon as you let off it runs normal again. i think i read somewhere where it could be the afm and worn areas where the flap travels.. this is what it was doing yesterday but at a much lower rpm. i have a few afm's so ill throw a different one in and see. thanks
