This colour works on 917 Porsches and GT40 Fords and I have even seen it work on a John Wyer-look-alike E30 M3. With some fat 16" BBS RS on stretched rubber, slammed coilovers and lots of black-outs your car could look like most other highly impractical German show E30s (not that I'm saying they look good, are desirable or go well enough to need a bare-metal bolt-in roll cage that does nothing except add weight and cause head injuries in a crash).
