Vert owners: If you purchased a new roof where did you buy it from?

I went to a couple of local shops and to fix my rear window the roof has to come off so all the cost is in the labour to do this.

So I am thinking why not just buy a new roof and have them put it on, so is there a 3rd party roof that is recommended as a replacement to the OEM one.

    TIA for any information.

What's wrong with buying a new OEM one? BMW doesn't make crap.

I was quoted $1600 for the OEM roof so I wanted to see if there were other options available that would work.

When you say the roof has to come off, do mean frame off the car or canvas off the frame? Removing the frame from the car is easy. You could do that yourself and save some $$.

I would be wary of removing the canvas off the frame, fixing the window and putting the canvas back on. What were they going to charge you?

Try www.worlduph.com and get the german cloth. Do not use your old straps, buy new ones.

Both shops are going to remove the canvas top off the frame, sew in a new window and then reinstall the canvas top back on the frame.

Cost of labour to do the work is $600, window is $80 and replacement trim piece on the front is $80.

So if i have to pay $600 labour then I thought I might as well entertain the idea of installing a new roof on.

don't replace the back window... it's really a bad idea. I did it and the top leaked afterwards and generally looked shitty. Try to get a replacement top with a zip-in rear window

I put a new top on my '89 last weekend. I got mine at topsonline.com. They are in California and good people to buy from. This is the second one I've bought from them. Replaced the top on my '91 November 2007.

word upholstery's tops are nice I put one on a customer's car, I sprung for a later model factory top, so I can replace the window on the car when it starts to get hazy.

Bought the top off eBay from qualitytopsandinteriors and got the new top today and here are some quick pics.

I'm dropping the car off to Pacific Auto Trim for install and they should have it done by tomorrow.

Has the crosshatch stitching which is supposed to mean this is Sonneland or real German cloth

                  Roof seam is taped

Hard to see but the rear window has a light green tint to it

You would be foolish not to replace the straps too.

The shop is going to take a look at the straps and see if they need to be replaced or if they can be reused.

Is there issues with reusing them?

I paid $325 shipped from that seller.

I chose then since they had 100% positive feedback and the previous buyers of their convertible tops were for some pretty nice convertibles.

Make sure you post installed pics & any comments from the shop that does the work. I need a new top pretty badly at this point...

If the top needs no assistance to fold into the compartment they are OK. If you have to manually assist folding, replace the straps.
