        What is the name of that stitching called?

        It's called a French Seam, this guy is using the wrong thread though, factory was a triple thread not the typical double thread...

        Cabrios use this stitch as well

          Dashboards are not hard at all to swap. Nothing but nuts and bolts. There's great write ups if you google it.

                you can still get the e28 leather dash from bmw, it's about $1800 or so.
                928 leather shop quoted me about $800 to make and install a leather dash cover on my e28 dash. they do tons of porsche stuff and did the leatherwork on jay lenos tornado, so i figure they know what they're doing.

                      was a leather dash actually available form BMW? I thought the leather option was only the center console, ebrake surround, arm rests and map pockets.

                          The dash was also part of that package. It came on 91 Mtech 2 convertibles, and and some euro mtech 2 cars.
