    1985 318i valve problems

Is there a free on line service manual for my car.
I need to do the valves ,but, don't know anything about this engine.

Adjust the eccentrics to .008". Get yourself a set of feeler gauges. Bentley handbooks can be had for ~$40. Get one.

...you're not sure about the measurement I gave you? Or about how to adjust them?

Pop the valve cover off. There are 8 rocker arms. At the end of each rocker is a metal slug with a hole in it. That's the eccentric. There are a few writeups on here detailing the adjustment of the M10's valves.

          This might not end well.

Search for "valve adjustment" on www.mye28.com. The procedure is identical between the M10 and M30.
