If you car is working fine it's probably old equipment such as an alarm or other accessory.

Yep - large sheathed cable with a red stripe - smells like cruise control.

Check the wires' colors looking at the Cruise Control Electrical Schematic e30zone.net/e30wiki/index.php?title=wiring_diagrams
There are two, depending on the year.

it attaches to the electromagnetic coupler for the old style of sun roof crank handle. It hooks to the auxiliary battery for those functions when you lose control of the manual locking mechanism. you might have to get a new magneto and base plate. hope this helps. sent from hell using Tapatalk
