your best bet is to go ahead and convert it to MPEG-2 or DIVX and then burn it to a VCD. I use Roxio but I've also used "Toast" to do it. DVDit is also a good program for conversion.

Wait, Divx files can play on a DVD player? How? I though they were just avi files. I've burned one to a cd and it wont play on mine

FYI, the Phillips 642 plays Divx 3, 4, 5, Mpeg 1 (VCD), Mpeg 4, and some Xvid files in addition to regular DVDs. I've had one for about 6 months and it's awesome. Just down load the Divx file, burn it, and watch it on your TV.

Note, from my experience it plays Divx files with MP3 audio almost 100% of the time, if the Divx or Xvid files has the 448 audio or something like that it's trial and error. Some play, some don't.

CompUSA, Walmart, Target all carry it for $69

I started out Burning CD-Rs with my Sony software that came with the drive, but recently Fry's had a one day super sale and I picked up a DVD-R/W for $39. So I've tested a few out and burned Armageddon, Black Rain, and Black Hawk Down all on one DVD+R. They play great in the 642.
