    BMW trend

I was looking at some old PBMW and looking at how the scene has been changing with wheels with stretch, RS's regaining popularity, and the creativity of VW crowd gradually carrying over to BMWs. I guess I am more on the creative side, with stretch and doing something unique that may piss a lot of other BMW purist off exp.(Mikes' 5-series). I just want to see what were your opinions where modding BMWs may go and what you do or do not like about it?

I like it. Its refreshing. I used to just want an IS lip and weaves.

My cars not quite done, but its headed to the more subtle side of what your describing

yeah, function over form is more true to what bmw is about imo. mimicking the non-functional vw styling trends is lame and un-original.

I stopped buying that magazine when I started seeing more and more "VW" like mods with stretched tyres and all other "show" mods.

          Weaksauce.

Like our euro grills, smilies, mtech 1 kits and spoilers, our splitters, are IS lips, our startecs and MHWs those all add alot of horsepower. :p

Not knocking the stuff, it all looks so good, my only point is we do it too, just maybe not as out there as the VW scene.

Now, the e30 scene definitely does put a bigger emphasis on performance and actually driving the car, as it should.. but we still have are little cosmetic bits.

I like where some mods are going. Function over form definitely. Although I hate it when people put a fucking park bench on the trunk..........of any car.

Ultimately I agree with the performance>looks, however how much performance is really needed for the streets? In the end its all about personal preference.

exactly, bmw is about handling and engineering. im not a purist by any means but the reason i own bmw's is because they do everything pretty well. there are faster cars and i like street rods, for instance, that have mods that serve no purpose but to look cool. but when you take a car like a bmw and add shitty stretched tires that hinder performance its fucking stupid.

cosmetics dont detract from performance. 195's stretched onto 8 inch rims do.

there is a big difference between is lips and euro grills and et0 16x9s with 195s and suspension riding on the bump stops with no travel. cosmetic mods are fine as long as they don't hinder the abilities of the car. imo, of course.

Im not defending 195s on 8s, that is dumb. I just like the additional creativity (within reason) that the VW scene has brought.

And as far as suspension, on e30s you can get low with springs that are still actually nice, like GCs or IE3s etc.. so we can have function and form in that respect, unlike the dubbers

I just hung around the guys that want to be low as possible and pull off lowest offset of wheels. I like performance everything, but I get tired off seeing the same old thing that is in every single thread. Different is sometimes good, and then sometime bad. For example: The volvo lip or garage rubber.

before my e30 I had a 05 mini with a good bit of work into it. I borrowed alot of stuff from the vw scene. I have to admit for shows or meets I did take the wrench to the coilovers and lower it to the pavement, but that KILLED the handling so afterwards I would just raise it back up.
