What the hell am I supposed to do now?

As I was removing my old mirror to swap in a maplight mirror, I thought I was getting the mirror stalk off, but I was actually weakening the rivets and I pulled the little base off while it was still attached to the stalk.

I still can't get the stalk off, I'm going to try compressing the pins in a second, but does anyone know how I can fix this situation? Any help is greatly appreciated, I'd rather not drive back to school on Monday with no rear-view mirror.

EDIT: In my rage I posted this in general discussion, can a mod please move this to general technical? Sorry.

I would drill out the rivets from the front and then re rivit

just paint over the heads or cover in some anthacite cloth
