Ginger , making a come back

I have enjoyed reading everyone else's builds so its time to start one for my e30. Expect me to be somewhat slow to update. I am not a mechanic so I have paid for engine, transmission work but I can swap parts. I have loved European cars since I was a little boy way back in the 60's. I remember clearly at age 4 my first ride in a sports car. That silver 1960 MGA hugged those corners on the way to ice cream in Redondo Beach California. That was the moment I knew I was going to have and drive fun sporty cars during my lifetime. Fast forward to 1982 and I am on my own, working and looking to move up from my 73 Datsun pickup. From May of 82, In order I have owned modified and enjoyed the following sports car's. Black 74 Datsun 260 Z, Signal Orange 72 Porsche 914 1.8, Crystal blue 78 911 SC ( the one I miss the most), White with graphics 73 Porsche 914 2.4 P.O.C race car. I modified that car with a 2.5 911 flat six. I sold it in 2007 and the buyer with 30k more turned That Car into a top V.A.R.A class racer to this day. I swayed away from Europe for a bit with a 2001 Toyota MR-S. I swapped in a 2zz and added a twin screw supercharger. Followed by a 2008 Subaru WRX.

A good friend of mine is a BMW nut and just as enthusiastic as I am has always had 2002 Tii's and Bavaria's. I knew 2002's from Him they had nice handling characteristics. That's what I love when it comes to cars, Lighter, manual cars that feel great to drive hard and corner even better. My first BMW was a 97 M3. Loved that car but I missed the razor sharp responsiveness of my old 911. regrettably I sold that car in 2013. Since then I picked up a 320i, 3 2002's all projects with rust and never got far and sold them off. I will load some old pictures as I find them.

The beginning of the story with the Unwanted Ginger begins in 2019. SALVAGEDTITLE, I picked this car up in Costa Mesa CA, 115k on the clock ran horrible, dents everywhere, cracked front and rear bumpers, paint oxidized and burnt with a buffer but it had some poly bushings, black interior swap, 4.10 LSD, stainless exhaust, new fuel tank, euro clock, a tight 5 speed but most importantly great panel gaps, drove straight, and it paid just 3 grand. My plan has evolved slowly with this one but mirrors my other plans with my cars. I look to get the most out of each one without going overboard. Sometimes I fail at this As I am aware you do not live forever. So far this one has had a replacement engine with every gasket, seal and wear component changed, crankscraper, new rebuilt head with Bimmerheds 274 cam and valve train. squid chip, New OEM bushings at the trans, engine and differential. Differential swap to a medium case 3.73 LS unit. new control arms, treehouse FCAB, balanced driveshaft, DSSR, Koni sports, H and R sports, rear drive shafts.

Right now I am going through the interior, adding IE adjustable camber plates, RD shorty headers with DP, a tip change to a single 2.5 matte piece. I will take pictures and log progress from here on out.

This will be a compromised street, AX and track day car. I want it to somewhat comfortable for the street, handle great, be reliable and I don't give a shit about TTOD, I fully want to get better at driving. That is My motto by the way Old, Slow and Happy. Picture's coming soon

Ginger is having a more driver friendly exhaust adjustment. the PO installed this exhaust and its constantly hitting things. Looking under it it appears to be not tucked up in the provided space. I picked up some RD shorty headers and have Hector at extreme mufflers in Riverside ca working on it. Before pictures

Using the Labor day weekend to do car stuff. AC delete as the lines are touching the front header.

A.C delete is almost complete. This is because I do not use the AC in this car. When its this hot it stays in the garage. My 2017 Silverado has proper AC. The 20lbs it lost is not a thing either. I am not chasing weight loss. The back seat is staying in too since it looks better in than out to me. I used steel strap and the O.E.M rubber bushings.

Next up is to cap the lines in and out of the cabin and a heat shield for the washer fluid tank.

I read through your story. I have driven some of those Datsun vehicles. I never driven a Porsche.
I look forward to seeing your up dates.

While your in there. A New CSF DTM oil cooler came up for sale near me so I decided the timing was perfect since the front parts are off Ginger. That decision rolled into several others.

I took on the task of painting it along with the peeled paint on the mirrors, grill pieces and the chrome rain gutter (more on that later as I had a difficult time getting a good result). I hate replacing the lower front valance lip. The e30 looks so much more fun lowered a few inches. It also looks incomplete without one and less sporty with the basic no drop short one.

I used 1/2" x 1/8" steel bar. bent it to the shape of the metal valance. Welded on tabs to the valance. Drilled holes in the bar stock and valance and used button head SS hardware to connect a flex able lower lip. NASCAR style.
