HHAhahahah...I get that a lot.
I had a Volvo with only front flaps and they worked really well to keep the sides of the car clean. Without the rear flaps you leave the driveway after washing your car and you have rooster tails on each side of the car by the time you get to the end of your street. The rear does not need them, really.

Maybe I am used to the look.

Yes, they are aluminium alloy and can be polished.

I know a picture somewhere, but couldn't find it yet.

And those "wings" on air wents in c-pillar, they are cast aluminiun too.
