Build it and it will. They break at around 400 stock, depending on what year it comes from... <--- ex-Subaru guy
EDIT: Are you wanting a dyno queen, or functionality?

No sir no dyno queen here! That s was tuned by gear to no slip on street tires. And I had a balls out tune also. But never used it with slicks because u may know that those rear ends suck ass... Speaking of how good are these rears??? Can they take a 300whp or so launch on slicks at the track??Tial, Precision, Garrett Dealer!!!

S38 came out of M5s. S38B36 (3.6, 315hp stock) from the US and early european E34 M5s, S38B38 (3.8, 340hp stock) from the later european E34 M5s. There was also an S38B35 from US E28 M5s and M6s but they were sort of weak compared to the later ones. I'm not sure on the specs on all of them or which is beefier, etc, I'd imagine the B38 is the one you'd want though.paint sucksComment

Why wouldn't that be cool? It would be really unique, and if done correctly, would be pretty cool I'd think. To each their own though... Some people like drag racing, some like drifting, some like road racing... Some like boost, some don't....

Very nice starting point. The m42 is definitely not the motor for you. If you build them internally and then boost them they max out around 350rwhp from what I've read. That would be one mean 318is though.
I'm running mild boost (9.5psi) on mine and am hoping for 200+. Some passengers have said I'm there already before dyno tuning... but you never know until you get a printout.
Anyway, for that kind of power and a BMW motor... S38 like everyone else said."A good memory for quotes combined with a poor memory for attribution can lead to a false sense of originality."
