hate to say it, but i worked for usps and you dont even want to know.... and to be honest the people working in any shipping company dont give a crap about your packages. You should see how packages get thrown about.... it sucked being on the end of the line and having to hand a customer a flattened package. Most of the damage occurs at the sorting plants and from all the sorting clerks, and semi truck drivers who dont have to deal with customers... well thats the chance you take. Seriously insure things for full value.Wait, you both have small dogs? thats kinda

That's a tough one. How does fiberglass normally get shipped?
I will tell you this. I had an Mtech kit shipped. The guy placed everything in a carton without any protection. I am totally serious. No insulation, nothing. Nothing broke. I was shocked. It was DHL that deliver it. You could hear the pieces moving and falling in the carton. Heavy metal steel bumpers hitting against, plastic etc.
I just got lucky.

Sucks to see that damage. All the damn companies are terrible. I have had the best luck with FedEx but UPS has never really done me wrong.
Always insure and if it is something super important get before and arrival photos and DO NOT let the driver leave without opening the package or at least signing and noting the damages. Something important require a signature so they cannot just drop it off. As said insure it for more than the actual value and then more for your time and effort. Having fedex package it themselves or UPS or whoever is another more important part if you truly want to make sure it arrives safely or get refunded for the value.

My businesses deals with UPS and FedEx on a daily basis, and we ship glass. Let me just tell you, UPS is horrible. I would not ship anything with UPS unless it was not fragile, or small enough to fit in a box where you can have tons of padding/shock absorbing materials filling the empty spaces.
FedEx is MUCH better.. but honestly, if you are shipping any larger, or extremely fragile item. I would always suggest pallet shipping it. With pallet shipping you guarantee your package will surely NOT get crushed. The only damage would be from vibrations in the truck, since pallets are always handled by pallet jacks. I have seen plenty of ABS bumpers ship with no issues since they are very light and typically light boxes are stacked on top. Fiberglass is always a gamble though. I hope you the best with FedEx damage claim and they are much easier to deal with then UPS.

Oh it's not over by any means. They're saying since I accepted the package that they won't honor the claim. at least that is what my letter told me in the mail. Well, how the fuck am I suppose to know if the goods are fucking damaged or not?!?! I have pictures of before and after it arrived to my house. The box was not the same size and it's obvious they smashed it and repacked it. I have to wait till monday to talk to a claims agent. I could fucking spit fire i'm so angry right now!!!!!!111

I had to sign for it. The procedure I took was to first inspect the package, I noticed the box was banged up so before I opened it, I took pictures of the current state before opening the package. after opening the package, I took pictures the bumper covered in bubble wrap and peanuts. I then took the bumper entirely out of pakaging to find it had been damaged which I documented as well. I call fedex less than 10 minutes after the driver left and made my claim. This is what fedex sent me:
Dear FedEx Customer,
Thank you for submitting your claim for the above-referenced shipment. After carefully reviewing your documentation and the shipping records, we are unable to honor your request for a claim.
FedEx investigated the claim and discovered that:
-Your shipment was delivered on 10/03/2009.
-It was signed for on Delivery Record: 51306195, Line:48.
Acopy of the delivery report is enclosed for your records.
Sincerely,
Michelle Baker

its almost like they're saying I'm making a claim b/c the package was not delivered. Since they record all their phone calls, they should know the reason I made a claim... especially since they "carefully" reviewed it.
