    My Snow Rally Machine

So starting last night it's been dumping snow relentlessly, So i decided to put the winter boots on the E30, (b-caps and studded snow tires) and then i found an un-trodden dirt road with a foot of snow over it, and blasted through it at about 60 mph.

It was freaking awesome! being from MD, we never see more than 6 in of snow for more than a day, and it gets plowed immediately. out here its a different story!

I had no idea My E30 was so awesome in the snow with those tires. I bet i can take on most Saabs!

anyway here are some after pics. If i had someone to go with me, i would take action pics whilst spraying up sheets of muddy snow, but alas....

very nice. we get a shitload of snow here and I've never had problems in an e30 with 4 snows and a little weight (stereo) in the trunk.

however on the highway is a different story. We've only gotten 1 storm this bad in my 8 years driving, but when we got ~30 inches over the course of a night I could not drive on the highway, the back end kept getting squirrely. Had to slow it down to 40 from 60 to maintain traction

My Snow Rally Machine Round 2

So i cruised into the foothills to find some twisty dirt roads, i found one, but it turns out it was private with like a million warning signs that any trespasser would be stopped and questioned, etc. so i turned around.

Also turns out my car doubles as a snow plow, since the "i" lip is about 5 inches off the ground, so going through fresh snow would send a sheet straight up and over the windshield.

        fun.

        Snow plow mode:

        After plowing the road:

I apologize for the blurriness of the photos, i wasn't thinking and I didn't bring my tripod along.

WE had like 6 inches of snow or so last year that leveled off to these conditions:

I honestly couldn't get ANYWHERE in the e30. Everywhere I went the back was sliding all over the place. In my old honda it was much easier in the snow (naturally) but maybe I should get some snow tires or something b/c that looks awesome!

yes. get snow tires. My car was unstoppable. Well compared to how stoppable it would have been with the Kosei K1s and slicks.

Problem being that there are SO many hills around here I'm still not sure if it's worth it.

Parents have much more capable vehicles...

Well mostly it can be for fun... if you have other more capable vehicles at your disposal, then there ya have it, but if you want to biff around in your E30 i would definitely get a set of cheap b-caps or steelies and throw the knobbiest winter tires you can find on them, you would be surprised at the world of difference tires can make. After all, it's the tires that literally connect the car to the road (most of the time...).
