Yeah, those french superchargers are totally reliable.
Thinking of swapping an m42 into my e30 next.......

I'm not looking for massive hp in a car that torque steers with a stock set-up. I am looking for the car I wanted in high-school, and look at that... I am building it, just the way i want it to be built.

It would just be cool, I was just kiddin about the waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles thing anywho.

I would have at least put a 16v in it? You wanted an 8v as a kid in HS?

I want what came in it. Hence the 8v. I can always upgrade later if it dissapoints me... although I doubt it will being an around town toy.

                      Update 3-18-10
So the engine i bought turned out to be kind of a dud.
The bottom end was shot due to an thrust bearing going out. i had to source a good bottom end, which was actually given to me by a very nice Dubber in Marietta. I re0rebuilt the motor and shoved it into the car two weeks ago.
                      Pics
                      The bad cranks

                      All new seals, bearings, etc...

                      Bottom end going together

                      3-19-10
While rebuilding the motor and waiting on extra parts, i decided to tackle some interior stuff.
                      Cabrio dash out

                      GTI dash in

                      New (to me) backseat in

                      4-14-10
                      The car lives!
I drove it around last night, it still needs some odds and ends, but all in all it runs pretty darn well.
I put the Momo wheel from my e30 in it and installed the roof rack. I fit better in the gti with the wheel due to my height (6'4") athough I still probably look silly driving it.
                      Pics:

                      Next on the list:
MK1 cluster (the PO put a cabrio clustr in it)
                      New driver seat bottom
Upgraded rims (perhaps the newere snowflakes or som Ronal Turbos)
                      Suspension
                      Upgraded Brakes
                      PAINT!!!!!!!!!!
                      Yours truly,
                      Rich

Sweet. So what bottom end is in it now? And FWIW, you cannot just slap a 16v head on the bottom end and call it a day. Even if you have all the supporting parts, the compression will be all wonky and the extra valves will not clear the pistons as far as I know. Best to just start with a whole 16v. I'm thinking about just building a higher compression cam'd 8 valve. It doesn't take much to get these little turds moving.

I have a 1.8 block with a cammed 8v head. It lopes and blowes air 6 feet out of the tailpipe, which tells me the compression is pretty awesome. It also has some pretty nice get up and go for a POS mk1 gti ;)
