    First post and my car.

Hi everyone, first post, better make it a good one :)

I've always been interested in the performance side of cars rather than the 'cruzin with beats round town' scene, I buy a car because I like it and makes me feel good. Anyway, I've been involved in motorsport for past few years...Carerra Cup GB, British GT, Britcar and a few odd ball races in the FIA GT series. I helped run various Porsche 911 GT3 race cars...I even had the important role when the cars were lining up on the grid:

I'm currently on a year break between going back to Uni to study aerodynamics with the eventual plan of becoming a CFD aerodynamist. Whilst waiting till september I'm working with the Extra 300 aeroplane for a local company servicing and doing annual inspections (with supervision) on them. So thats my personal side of things.
So back to cars as you can guess by user name I don't drive a Skyline (me bad) mainly due to being too young to insure one...I've owned a few BMW's since I was 17. Heres a few pictures of my cars past, present and future:

This is my current E36 328 (I'll detail this further at bottom of post):

Heres the (not so clean) engine bay:

Its running a DaveF induction kit, which I can't rate enough, and has a full AC Schnitzer Remus (look in pic with plane above) exhaust system...Heres a vid I made one night when it was wet...so bear in mind floor is slippy so this is half throttle, but it lets you hear the car:

Anyway here is my old car I built:
My last 318iS...To be honest I regret getting rid of this...and the wheels too :( This is from a photoshoot but I clened it 12 times a day and really loved it LOLz It was a 1.8 N/a running 160bhp.

Anyway back to my E36 2.8...I got really bored of it, even though its a really quick car...I eventually got bored of it and really not caring for it:

And leaving it parked up for a couple of months to use it as a castle then slide in the snow:

So something drastic had to happen to the car for me to find the love again and after a few beers down my local with the boys looking at my current ''other'' E30 BMW 316 coupe a plan formulated.

    Look empty bay :)

Look what is now out of the 328 and in an E30 (a car older than me)!

This is my E30 316...sleeper :bigthumb:

Anyway thats a small LOL introduction to me and why I'm on here...I'll upload a project thread but as I'm looking around and finding inspiration for my car

Welcome to the forum. Great collection of cars you had. Your e30 has some real potential to look awesome. Are you planning on keeping it a sleeper?

Nice intro. The best thing an e36 can do is give its engine to an e30!

Thanks guys, I forgot to include these pictures of the conversion. I know I destroyed a perfectly stunning E36 328 coupe to build this project but I don't regret it. Its getting a full spray and after the pictures I'll detail what I'm doing to it...I'm this far at the moment...sorry all pictures taken on the Nokia N95.

          Um empty canvas ;)

Well a few lots and some more hours later...Its not connected up as the shell is getting a full reapray and it needs a few other parts such as the E39 M52 sump...so please note the angle the engine is sitting at is just to save space. Will get some daylight progress pictures

Anyway things are happening and its getting there SLOWLY

Here is what I'm doing with the car...

I didn't realise how close in fairness the performace figures were the E36 M3. With mine we are initally running 4x100 E30 325 is suspension with 15'' wheels. It should ''hopefully'' handle better than the 316 OEM suspension, we're fitting Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs (no coilover bullcr@p) all new. i'm sure doing all this will make it both very fun and driveable car, not forgetting economical LOL LOL LOL

You know the E36 (from the youtube video above) and know the noise, my friend is tweeking a few bits 'n' bobs inc de catting (thanks to taxation laws and loophole in the UK). We are deleting the engines current PCV system and installing a quality oil catch can and crank case breather system. We're also going to uprate the fuel system i.e a Welbro fuel pump, decent fuel pressure regulator and toying with the idea of a collector tank. In time we will also be upgrading the injectors.

Can't make my mind up hoover or hairdryer for the ultimate effect, There is a hybird VF38 turbocharger I've ''borrowed'' from my friend which is the likely solution depending on budget with regard to all the interal mods that would need to be done to the engine to accomidate this unit.

We're also going to be making enquiries with GFB with regard to some nice light weight and under driven pullys for the ancilleries (hope thats spelt right LOL) plus obviously light weight flywheel and decent clutch to cope with my McRae driving style.

Anyway its having the AC Schnitzer exhaust fitted and the DAVE F deleted as my friend laughed at it and told me its no use for ''our'' project. So with the De cat and the other tricks it'll ound a peach as you know and go like heaven in hell in theory anyway LOL

I hope this answers what and the plans...the problems i'm going to have is the fact i'm in my earliest of early 20's and insurance in England may be a MAJOR issue to use it as a road car, but it'll look like an OEM stock 318is only sign will be the under bumper lip :) I'm building it to take on the Nurbergring later this year.

Hope this answers all and any help pointers and anything that may help me please feel free to add in this post.

          Thanks for reading

          Dean

N.B If anyone has a 318is air con front valance free and willing to send to UK drop me a PM I've been searching everywhere for one! LOL

The valences are different in US and UK/Europe. I don't think you'll find exactly what you're after here (plus int'l shipping on big parts is killer).

Other than that your project sounds great! Looking forward to seeing more of it.
One thing I'd add is while the engines are out of both cars it'll be easy to swap the e36 steering rack over to the e30. If you wanna go to the Nurburgring later in the year this will make a BIG difference, I recommend it! From 4 turns LTL to 3.2, there's a write-up here.
