Dude. I am going to really date myself here, but WAAAY back when (10 years ago?) there was a BF Goodrich ad in all of the car mags (yes, guys, way back in the old days, we read these paper periodicals, called magazines, to get a lot of our information) touting their new GForce T/A KD tires, where their test M Roadster pulled over 1G on the skidpad using the stock tire sizes. Not some sicko 275 width 140 treadwear meats that would give a Kia Soul 1.0G roadholding force.
What's my point? The M Roadster has an "antiquated" suspension design. Also, the skidpad doesn't really yield THAT much useful information. A Ford Taurus SHO pulls .88G with its shitty runflats. Would you want to hustle this car on the track or on an autocross course. HAYL no.Leave a comment:

The RX-8, yay for no torque/HP and shit gas mileage! I rode in one of the engineers at work RX-8, cool car, but not for me.Ever look up how frequently the clutch and tranny need to be replaced on your car? 30-50k miles between clutch jobs seem to be the norm. Kinda why i chose the rx8. Not to mention the better reviews. But the e30 is more reliable and fun to drive. I like my 95 thunderbird more then the mazda. Also prefer the e30 over the fiance's e60. I'm also 28 and if i were to get a newer car to DD it would be a yaris. Next year i'm getting rid of all my post 87 cars and getting an e39 touring or a 95 m3 to daily.
I love the reactions this has drawn out of people.
Oh and yes, I've read of SOME early clutch failures, but it's definitely not the norm. And I'd still best most of those are people that ride the clutch on hills etc.
Call BS all you want, it's true.
There is really no point in arguing with the "oMG E30s iz da bestus carz evAr maed!!!11!!1!1!1111!" crowd.Leave a comment:

Cool. Sounds like you've been there a few times. I've only been there once before and it was an absolute disaster (a good one :)), I'm hoping this time will be just as good.
 and I just realized my typo! haha. Hopefully in reality, it's not a typo ;)
You just went from comparing an s52 non-m e30 to an s54 e30m3, but I'd still put money it wouldn't come close. The e30 may be more fun to drive, and it may FEEL faster because it'll be louder and more raw, but all things equal regarding driver and conditions...it will lose. You're comparing modern technology to 20+ year old suspension technology.
I'm curious, have you ever been to the track?Leave a comment:

275/40/18s + sways = 1G on the skidpad in these cars.
Take your swap car to the next trackday in your area where some Z33s will be and see if you "spank" them. I suspect you will be surprised.
Even with the stock shitty sized tires and stock suspension, this car destroys my last two E30s even the 318 with RT615s and properly setup GCs can't dream of coming close.Leave a comment:

Don't be soft - do it yourself. With 1 helper I can do a clutch on a Subaru in under 3 hours, drive-in, drive-out. That's lying on my back with basic garage tools, so anyone should be able to do it. The only PITA thing with them is doing timing belts (which is just fiddly) or bleeding the clutch on an early turbo model (bleed nipple halfway up the slave = WTF?!).
Subaru wagons are FTW as a daily. I'm about to replace my 300,000km-old '94 Liberty GX wagon with a '94 Legacy GT wagon as my new daily driver. Just need to get rid of those rubbish twin turbos!
A Z33 would be pretty fucking nice, though. I rate those cars.Leave a comment:

I DD my e30 because the Nova is out of commission right now. I love it. Even with a stock M20, solid motor and trans mounts and IE3's/Bilsteins. I have no regrets about DD'ing it, and the fact that it's 22 years old is irrelevant.Hate the cars looks, the make, the year all you want but these cars flat out perform. That car doesent need huge wheels, fancy suspension, or engine mods. Brembo's, sticky tires, and a good driver and that thing will kick ass.
Its completley true. We drive e30's because we're poor. I DD'd my e30 for about 6 months, and it was terrible. It was much more aprreciated driven only once or twice a week. Now all of a sudden I like my e30 so much better now that my trucks on the road,
Different strokes for different folks I guess. *shrug*
