Well it's been a long time coming and a lot of procrastination, but I'm finally posting my semi-recent acquisition. Always need a story first. The quest began a year or so ago when I spotted a sleek brillantrot, diving board, convertible passing in the opposite direction, I knew that one day I would have an e30. I joined r3v and the "other" forum in appreciation of the beautiful e30 body style. Once I had got my permit I was hellbent on getting an e30 and even though the 'rents tried to dissuade me because of age and maintenance cost I was not dismayed.
Fast forward 6 months to the scouring of many a site in search of the "one." I saw an '89 325i about an hour away with a completely rebuilt front suspension, all the necessary maintenance done for $1200 bones, long story short that purchase never came to fruition. So about late February I was searching craigslist.org and found the holy grail, (no not an M3 but I do wish ;) a 1989 325is. Sport interior, rear "is" spoiler, plastic bumpers, rear pop outs, but an automatic :( all for a grand total of....$2000 dollars! Woohoo I found the motherload, minus the tragedy in between the driver and passenger, and I was in cloud nine until I called the seller and found out it had rust around the driver tail light which I was not fond of, hard to get in the North East I know. I told him I'd come by Saturday to check it out, even though he had another buyer lined up, I still had hope. The next day I called and he said he sold the car, really bummed now, prior to this I sat on man's thinking tank and checked craisglist to see if the car had been sold, this time to find an 1989 325i, $2200, had some goodies to be shown below, same location, same telephone number, so when I talked with the seller he told me of this car and the hope meter had risen exponentially. Set up the same time to check it out on Saturday, went looked over the car, test drove it, even in the rain( A big NO NO in the E30 buyer's guide, but I was to overcome to even think of that.) Took it the home that day never to look back.
With a fair amount of maintenance recently done, i.e. head gasket, valve cover gasket, timing belt, water pump, coolant flush, new cat back I'm happy to say that I am a pig in a pie, or whatever the saying is. Apologies for the term paper on how I bought my car, but for those who read cheers to you.
Cliff notes: Boy falls in love with car. Boy sees car. Boy buys car. The End.
May I introduce Blu, my 1989 325i:
