    my new project

stay tuned for a full build thread coming up with help from a local bmw shop. i'm hoping to get a job soon and knock this out in 3-6 months just in time to put it away for the winter LOL.

i apologize ahead of time for not washing it beforehand (can't really go far until i rebuild the brake system) and the amateur pics/editing:

    enjoy.
I'd rather bag your mom than my car :D

thanks for the kind words. it was kind of nice finding this local and for only $3000. the guy who owned it never drove it in the winter but let the brake system fall apart :( as for the lip, i was thinking of going black with it.

so stage one of my build is part necessity & part upgrade and will be done within the next 2 weeks:

                  n.a. ellipsoids w/hids
                  blacked out grill
                  new roundels
                  coilovers
                  big brake upgrade up front
                  steel braided brake lines
complete suspension & brake system overhaul (all new parts and i'm talking everything)
                  e36 m3 steering rack
cheap muffler to get it quiet (temporary until the full exhaust it'll need during stage 3 of my build)
                  fenders rolled
                  some killer wheels
and some other misc. little ad ons

somewhere soon after i'll be removing the rust around the rear license plate lights and replacing it with fresh metal & paint. will probably take a wire brush to the underside as well and give it a nice undercoating to preserve the rustless pan as well.

.............and no, i'm not some rich baller. i sold my house, sold my squareback, parted out my gti, and getting ready to sell my gti to someone that has been practically begging for it and just taking some of this cash and making a fun reliable summer daily for the few days of the week/month that i'll actually get to drive it.

That's a clean 318is from the looks of it. Plans sound nice but I'd hold out on the BBK. After you drive the car near 10/10ths you may realize the money will be better spent elsewhere.

Very clean and looks showroom stock, a very rare find nowadays. Looks good so far, but skip the E36 M3 steering rack; go for a Z3 rack instead. (http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=172261)

well it's either get stock discs, calipers, & nice pads for about $350 or get a wilwood bbk for $750 that i'll need when i do an engine swap.............or can the stock brakes safely handle 70+ more h.p.? or is there a cheaper alternative?

and a b&w of one of teh above pics:

Nice ride, how much did you get her for?

If I were you I'd save up for the Wilwoods, because its quality over quantity, and it'll pay off in the long run.
wanted: BMW 325i (but any version would suffice), preferably in good condition. Consider spending up to 4k, or a trade for a 2001 Civic DX.

Well sorted stock brakes with good pads and rotors can handle 200 hp easy. And you are the one handling the horsepower, the brakes just handle the speed.

You can get rx7 calipers with corrado rotors. It'll pretty much run you what new rotors and pads and calipers will run you. I wish I had atleast a little bit of money, so I can get rid of my horrid wheel gap.:(
