oh nonono Thunderhill is not in SD it's in Willows way up in norcal haha. It was a rainstorm the second day so they cancelled it and I have to go back. SD was hella sunny when I went, so nice. I stayed with my friends at UCSD so I was in La Jolla the whole time, freakin' nice! I'm trying to transfer to sdsu.
dude man bro...

It's coming along... I think I'll reach my goal of having it on the track sometime in December
That is it's original motor/tranny being pulled out... the automatic tranny will be sent off to the metal recyclers, the motor will be kept around, the head is only 2 years old so I'm gonna rebuild the rest of the motor over time and hopefully stick it in a 2002 in a few years. Maybe I'll use this motor as an opportunity to go turbo when I get the 2002 so I can learn about turbo set-ups. That's not going to happen for a looooong time though, it's just going to lay around my house for a few years until I'm ready for another project.
I also hosted an e39 meet last Friday night with some bf.c members.. pretty good turnout! I think we had about 16 e39s show up and then we rolled off to the weekly Ranch 99 meet after a few hours

a disco stick.
530i/5-speed... pretty hard to come by, over my 2 months of searching I only came across 3, the first one sold within 2 days of posting, the second one I found was a piece of shit being sold by a persian guy who didn't want to believe that it needed a new TOB aka complete clutch job, and the third one I found I bought.Last edited by dnova89; 11-14-2010, 02:33 PM.Comment

speaking of persians selling bimmers: me and my dad were out car-hunting a few weeks ago in mountain view, and some persian dude with a 325i e90 wagon was trying to sell it for $2k less than he bought it

Took the e39 out to the track again last weekend.... unfortunately no pics because this time the photographer wanted $65 for the CD... and since I already have pics of the last HPDE, I figured same old same old why spend more money than I need to. I drove up friday night after work planning to sleep in my car, but I couldn't, maybe it was the rockstar I drank to make the drive, but I got 0 sleep. I "slept" in the parking lot of the hotel I slept in last time I went, so when I woke up I went in and treated myself to some free breakfast haha.
My friend brought out his r33 skyline GT-R
...and I got to ride in the "driver's seat" :)
A ride in that skyline, followed by another ride in my other friend's cayman S... I decided to give up that free breakfast lol.
Also, they were holding a skid pad at Thunderhill on the same day I was there, so I wondered over and saw an e30 drifting. I went and said hello and it turned out to be one of our members, Ian Bowers, so he took me for a ride and it was pretty crazy. Then I took him for a ride around the track in my e39, and I started feeling sick again so I called it a day and went home. Worst drive home ever. Threw up again on the way home and had to take intermittent 20-30 minute naps because I felt so shitty and didn't want to risk falling asleep at the wheel. Finally made it home, a 2.5 hour drive turned into a 5 hour drive.Last edited by dnova89; 11-21-2010, 04:22 PM.Comment

Here's another picture of that beautiful R33, and one of me throwing Darius around.

We got the front end under the car...
But nothing ever goes right lol:
My friend is now fabbing up a solid shifter to eliminate the shift carrier, bushing, and the jesus clip. The new shifter will be 2" higher so closer to the steering wheel, and did I mention no more jesus clip?Comment

I realize an engine hoist can only go so high, and that an E30 with no motor doesn't weigh very much. However it's important to understand how the loads are transferred when lifting and try to minimize that as much as possible, your chain already broke once. This diagram describes how you can easily put more than the weight of the load into the chain.
It's good to see that you almost have an E30 back on the road though. Keep up the work!Comment
