    Project Sabine: Red 1987 325is

A buddy and I just purchased two non-running 87 325's for $500. Both are cinnamon red, one is a 325iC and the other 325is. The iC has a good engine, and driveline, crack free dash, and decent seats. The is has a blown engine, but good rust free shell.

For $500 who doesn't want to follow in Bill Caswell's footsteps?

Here are a couple photos from getting the iC home and starting the tear down:

Well the convertible is being completly stripped and junked due to the rust. Forgot to take pics of the is, otherwise I would have a couple of those posted as well.

Working on the car sucks because the ebrake is broken, and my drive is on an angle. I'm constantly worried it will roll away. Shouldn't be that bad until we pull the engine, then only chocks will be holding the car in place.

Are you making a rally car like bill caswell or just building a car out of two?

I would like to, but it will be a summer car/autocross toy. Once it is put back together it will be prepped for D Stock.

Thanks, working 40 hours and attending classes makes for little free time.

                Update...the IS has arrived

First off, some pictures of parts and the teardown of the IC

                Required Standing-In-Engine-Bay photo

Rear subframe dropped, exterior stripped of anything worth saving, only front subframe and HVAC left in the shell.

One of the local racers up here was headed from Sault Ste. Marie for the Lake Superior Pro Rally, and offered to trailer the IS to us.

                Nasty rear seat

                Clean, 100% working cluster

                Mint MT1 Knob

IC will be off to the scrapper in a week or two, then the engine swap, interior swap, and minor rust repair can begin.

So far the parts list includes:
                '87 IS ECU
                Drivers Zinno fender
                Black rear bench

The rear bench out of the IC is in decent condition, with a few rips. All the extra parts will be in a FS thread in the near future.
