Unleaded means there is no lead in the gasoline.
Premium is unleaded, it just has a higher octane rating than the non-premium gasoline.
Higher octane rating means its characteristics are closer to pure Octane's, which has an octane rating of 100.
The higher the octane rating, the harder it is for the gasoline to self-ignite at increased pressure and temperature during the compression stroke.
If the air-fuel mixture self-ignites before the spark plug would ignite it, it's called a misfire.
Continuous misfire due to usage of lower octane gasoline than required for the engine can cause damage to the engine. Higher octane cannot.

Also, using higher octane gasoline results in cleaner burn, higher power output, and increased fuel mileage.
