    My 250 dollar paint job.

My car is a 1987 325is with 207,000 miles that used to be bronzit. We have had this car in my family for about five years now. My dad bought it totaled for 400 bucks and one front end later it was back up and running. He drove it for about a year and then I bought it from him. I drove it for a while and loved the car but I could not stand the color so the summer after I graduated high school I decided I was going to do a complete color change. I landed on painting it cosmos black which is a black and blue pearl. My dad is the manager of a body shop here in Colorado and painted for years and years so I have been around refinishing cars all of my life. I started into the project pretty much myself and did most of the prep work and body work on my own, only asking for help on the bigger repairs. I painted all of the jambs and primed the car myself and my dad sprayed the color and clear coat. I probably have pictures of the transformation somewhere but it was two and a half years ago so they are definitely lost on some computer. The engine bay is the only thing we didn't paint at the time because I'm planning to do a swap when my motor blows up (if that ever happens) and I will do it properly then. All of the materials were either given to us by the paint supplier or we had them laying around our garage so the only thing I had to pay for was the use of the paint booth at my dads shop. The whole project ended up costing around 250 bucks and took about a month while working full time so all in all I'm pretty happy with it. It definitely needs a good detailing now though. My to do list is a mile long but the car is caught up on all maintenance stuffs so it's more of a wish list really.

Looks nice but there is a little too much black on the car, some silver wheels would be great.

Paint looks goood, but you could use ssome contrast. Maybe some more aluminum trim, or satin black bits, with wheels that arent black. I think it actually makes the paint look cheaper even though it appears to be pretty clean.

Clean it up with some different wheels, headlights, etc. and you will have a nice car!

Kopis are the plan for it eventually. I have stock weaves that are silver and look pretty good but are mounted with snow tires so i just run them in the winter. But its gettin pretty close to that time so ill post pics once I get them changed over.

Nice car. Talk to Bishop about detailing. He does incredible work and is very reasonably priced.

good job. imo, it might look better w/o the pin stripes. Also maybe try some plastic bumpers, or some silver rims.

Your dad owns a paint show? That must be nice. The car looks great...

Ditch the black rims. It's not 2005.

Alright I'm going to swap the wheels with my weaves in the next couple weeks. Just waiting for it to get closer to winter when I will actually need the snow tires.

My dad is the manager of a body shop not the owner. And he painted for probably fifteen years before he started managing and for part of that time he also did the body work. So he can pretty much do it all when it comes to fixing cars. It's very nice having that kind of hookup because there is no way I could ever afford to pay someone to do all of the work for me. He said his shop would have charged around 5000 for a complete color change.

You could definitely have your car painted at his shop. But I cant guarantee the price lol. He works at SVE in Broomfield right next door to Autosport Werks that maybe your familiar with.
