New to the BMW scene, just got a e30 318is

Hey guys, i'm in Melbourne, Victoria in Australia, I have just picked up a 90' e30 318is for my new daily driver. It is awesome, not exactly the fastest car ever but it drives smooth and I love the shape  body is straight, looks to be original paint, interior is perfect except for a few cracks in dash :)

I have been in the Honda scene for the last 5 years to be honest. So am completely new to the BWM scene. I had built up an EM1 civic coupe as a track/daily drive but just recently it was defected by the police and i have now taken it off the road to be a dedicated track car.

Got the e30 for its style as well as the fact that it was a RWD. This is the first RWD car i have owned :p

Anyway, the modifying bug has got me pretty bad already and I want to do a few changes. No way i can drive a stock car. I bought it completely stock with 193,000kms on it in great condition. I love it. Already looking at gettin a Koni/Eibach suspension combo and some recaro's and some sort of LSD diff setup.

Any suggestions on some reasonably priced mods to do and also maybe some links or suggestions of places to look when buying aftermarket parts would be great :)

I know my Honda's back to front, where to find aftermarket bits etc etc but when it comes to Euro's, even RWD i have no idea and am just starting to learn.

    Thanks guys, enjoy:

Here is my old Honda if anyone is interested, spent a lot of time and money on this thing over the 5 years that I owned it, such a shame it is off the road for good :( It has a built B20vtec with ITB's. stripped interior with Bride seats, 16x7.5 +26 SSR's with 10mm spacers at the rear for street. Track wheels are 15x8 6uL with 225 Hoosier R6. Winton PB: 1:40.5

I love proper hondas, that is very well done. Cannot wait to see what it going to come of the e30!

Brands and places to keep in mind for the e30:

      Bilstein
      H&R
      AKG(bushings)
      Ground-control
      UUC motorwerks
      Tuner Motor Sport
      Pelican parts
      RealOEM.com
tischer bmw(I use realoem to get part # then buy from here)

You can also get rid of that shitty m42 engine and swap a m20b25 or a m30/m50 swap. S50/s52 swaps

      Good luck and welcome!

P.S. More pictures of the honda? I love bride seats, those are on my list for my e30.

Hey thanks for the info mate. Yeah the engine in the e30 is definitely not the quickest of things but being just a daily i don't think i'll be doing any engine swaps anytime soon. Unless this engine dies, then i'll consider an engine swap.

I actually just ordered a set of the AKG bushings like 30 minutes ago.

I am pretty set on the Koni + Eibach combo. I have had good experience with the Koni's befor and I have heard great things about the eibachs, also the 30mm drop would be good for the car, keep it legal in AUS (cops down here hammer people for having low cars...)

        Things I am looking for:
        - Front lip, sideskirts and maybe a rear bar

        - short shifter setup, current throw is just a little too sloppy and long for my liking (I have read that the Z3m shifter is the way to go, but struggling to find one)

        - Recaro seats (I think the US 318is's got these standard so would be great to get a hold of some factory seats)

        - Some sort of LSD diff setup

        - a decent intake setup just to get some decent induction sound and a slight performance upgrade

        - Maybe a good quality leather shift boot/handbrake boot

I'm gonna try the SSR's on the e30 when i get the honda back from the workshop, but if they don't suit then i'll try find some decent euro wheels to chuck on it. No fake wheels for me by the way.

Here's a couple more of the honda:

That civic is what a proper honda should be. Hopefully the E30 comes out jsut as clean.

To E30_F34R- why bride? Bride seats is commonly used in the JDM scene, which is where bride originated from. I think a proper recaro/sport seats would look better.

Welcome, you have a great plan so far. However, I would look into H&R sports. Most people tend to think the eibach's are too soft even for a dd.

Did you find this on carsales? I swear it's the one that I was going to look at when I was down in Melbourne a few months ago. Didn't get a chance to though as I was only there for a night.

                        Looks great!

also, here in the US the 318is came with a 4.10 LSD. Alot of e30s came with lsd's. So I'm pretty sure you already have an LSD setup. :pimp:

Too soft? I have never used them but they were always a popular option for the Honda guys that didn't have the funds for coil-overs. Also the drop stated in the specs of the springs sounded perfect for my application, 30-40mm drop at the front and 30mm drop at the rear.

Well anyway, i will suss out the H&R springs and see if they will suit.

Yeah I did find it on carsales, apparently there were two young people befor me that looked at it and someone was gonna come after me, so I had to get in early haha

I actually looked at a 325e sedan (i think) 6cld thing the day befor but was in terrible state to be honest.

Yeah, I did some research and There is a chance I already have an LSD. from what I have read, the AUS delivered 318is didn't come with an LSD but then i have also read that there were a few that did have them as an option. I really have no clue (yet) when it comes to RWD setups so is there an easy way to check if i have an LSD setup? I drove it in the rain today and the tail is extremely happy sometimes, if a little twitchy

Also just so you all know, I believe in =

haha awesome little pic, who ever made that one lol
