Greetings folks-
Been lurking here for a while, reading up on all your useful info. Been a long time BMW enthusiast (and CCA member) here in Utah. I decided this year to take on a little project and find a decent E30 to possibly do an engine swap in and tackle some track and autocross time in as well. I've had some track time here in Utah at Miller (mainly in my old E39 M5), and ran some track days in Spring Mountain as well. I currently sport a 05 645ci in 6 speed manual as somewhat of a daily. With all the BMW's I have owned in the past, this time I thought I would give a shot to a E30.
Well, somehow I ended up with two E30's now.:eeek: (my poor wife)
I bought this 86es qausi-widebody some weeks ago. The guy had it for many years and did a lot of cool body work to it. The skirts are metal, and each fender well is extended with Porsche fender ends. It gives it about 2" more room in each well. The car runs great, but I am wondering if it's really the "e" engine in it (someone mentioned my manifold looked to be a non-e model - maybe someone could enlighten me).
Then, some days ago, the 91 318is popped up locally. It was a screamin deal that I could not pass up. I love the bumpers and looks of the newer E30's and originally bought the car for parts. But now that I have been thinking about it, I am wondering if it would be better to turn the 318 into the track rat with the swap since the engine is probably worn and the car has been sitting for nearly 10 years. The interior on the 318 is also really dirty and hating life. Might be a good candidate for stripping.
So, hello and I would be interested in hearing your opinions!
John
