I don't understand why everyone is enamored with the sharp cut off's. My 2010 subaru has it and I find that when blasting through the mountain twisties at night, it limits my vision and when the road dips --- I have no clue what's coming next. I've even thought about mounting extra lights to the ski rack for just those nights.

You know I still have the original projectors from this pair of lights--at least one of em seems like there is no fading or flaking in the reflectors. If you want to throw me some cash (I'd straight up give em to you but I just lost my job) I can send 'em your way.

Sharp cutoff means that you can get away with aiming higher. It also means that the projector was designed for high output bulbs and therefore will tend to have less of a hotspot in the center (because they have plenty of light to work with and don't have to concentrate it right in front of you).

Which projectors did you use? I've been waffling between TSX and E46es (which I've got lying around). The M3 has TFXes, which are very nice, though.

Unfortunately the underlying problem there is that you will blind people over crests or speed bumps. But it is a lot better than blinding people all the damn time with a dumb looking HID kit.

I used FX-Rs. I think they are pretty ideal for the application; 2.5", bixenon (a must for me), good output--wide and sharp, compact and easy mounting. The laser beams are getting to me though, and the pattern uniformity varies between the two projectors--bit of a QC issue perhaps.

Bulbs are phillips 81522+ (about 4000K, I'm not going to light my way with blue gayness) and 50W ballasts.

Yeah, 85122+ or DL50s are as good as it gets. Bixenons are not that important to me - I use US high beams with HIR 9011s for high beams.
