After being e30-less for about a year I finally picked up a 1992 318ic for $1800 from North Carolina.
I was a little hesitant because of the 4 cylinder(I've only had M20s and M30s,) but after living with it for a few days I'm really loving it. The M42 is responsive and if the revs are kept up it has the power to wring out the mountain twisties.(I've moved since my last e30 and now live in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia.)
It runs great, but the best thing about the car is being a southern car, there is absolutely zero rust.
After some routine maintenance, my plan is to install wheels and a small drop and a sound system. From there I'll focus on fixing a few little cosmetic things and making sure it runs perfectly.
